Düsseldorf International: Positive half-yearly results 2010 underline trend reversal in air traffic; 4 percent passenger increase

The recovery of air traffic, that began emerging as early as in the middle of last year, keeps carrying on at the airport of Düsseldorf. In the first half year the airport counted some 8.4 million passengers. That is 320,000 passengers more than in the same period of the last year despite a persistent winter and the ash cloud and equals an increase of about 4 percent. The months of March (+12%) and May (+9.6%) even saw record highs in passenger numbers. The number of flight movements in the first six months of 2010 reached about 99,000 (-0.6%) thus nearly matching last year’s figures.

“The decision to make the airport of Düsseldorf a hub continues to pay off. This year, we are expecting to reach the 18-million-passenger mark in Düsseldorf again and thus the record high of 2008,” says Christoph Blume, CEO of the airport management.

The trend reversal at the airport of Düsseldorf after the crisis began in the middle of last year already. Düsseldorf International completed the year 2009 with some 17.8 million passengers (-2%) and about 214,000 flight movements (-6.3%) by this reaching almost previous year’s level – an outstanding result in itself in view of the economic crisis.
