Airport Terminal Becomes Stage for Gourmet Cooking Events
Cooking and enjoying elaborate gourmet meals are unusual activities for visitors at airport terminals, but on July 4th, 2010, Düsseldorf International Airport (DUS) invites people to explore the culinary world right in the terminal building.
The airport terminal at Germany’s third largest airport turns into a public event space every first Sunday of each month as part of the DUS event series “Airlebnis” (air-experience). The public event on July 4th is called “The Terminal Cooks.” Both travelers and visitors are invited to watch and participate in celebrity cooking shows, a 6-course dining experience, and various food and beverage-related workshops and presentations.
Celebrity chefs include Reiner Calmund, Oliver Altherr of Marché International, and the Airport’s Managing Director Thomas Schnalke, who will team up to create delicious salad recipes for the airport audience. Visitors will also find two long dining tables where 100 guests can enjoy an elegant 6-couse menu, including yellow-fin tuna with mango chile chutney. And those with not enough time to sit down for an elaborate meal can participate in various cooking classes and lectures, even before or after their flights. Topics and events include cocktail mixing, beer and olive oil tastings, coffee workshops, sushi rolling, as well as table etiquette and the art of napkin folding.
The Terminal Cooks is open to the public from 11:00 am to 6:00 pm. For more information, visit www.fly2dus.com.
Düsseldorf International Airport, Germany’s third largest, offers several non-stop flights from US & Canadian cities (Atlanta, Chicago, Ft. Myers, Los Angeles, Miami, New York, Newark, Toronto, San Francisco, Vancouver), as well as convenient connections to many European cities.
